Phone number: 409-962-1368
Occupation:  recently retired from Lamar-PA where I was Coordinator of Public Information and an English Instructor
I have spent my life teaching English and Journalism. After graduating from Marymount College in Salina, Kanses, I taught Journalism, Newspaper staff, Photography and English at Emporia High in Kansas, where I earned 30 Post Bac hours towards Journalism certification and a Master of Arts in English. I moved back to Groves and taught three years at Immaculate Conception School in Groves. Then I moved to Beeville Junior High for one year. In order to be closer to my family, I moved to Humble High where I taught 16 years until my father's death in 1981. During my years at HHS, I got my certification in Journalism by attending classes at U of H, Texas A&M, Sam Houston, UT and University of Oklahoma. When I moved home to take care of Mama, I could not get a teaching job in a public school because I cost too much. I enrolled in Lamar-Beaumont to keep my mind going and they named me a teaching fellow which meant I worked halftime for less than half pay. I kept this job as long as I could by postponing my graduation with a Master of Art in English until 1986. That Fall Beaumont ISD hired me as a Senior English teacher at Westbrook. What they failed to tell me was that I only had the job for one year. Luckily Dr. Summerlin, LU-Bmt English and Foreign Language department chairman, found out about my lack of a job in the Spring and hired me for Fall 87. Then he suggested to the Lamar-PA department head that he hire me. I taught English that year and was named Coordinator of Public Information and English Instructor in July 1988. I retired from that combination position August 31. I am currently very involved in my church and Southeast Texas Regional Camp Fire Boys and Girls. At church, I am in the choir, teach 9th grade religion, recently was chairman of a writing commission for the diocese, the diocese choir and activities for the over-50's. I have been nominated for Treasurer for the regional Camp Fire board.
